Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu, representing the good people of Nasarawa West Senatorial Zone, has extended his heartfelt felicitations to the Muslim Ummah on the commencement of the 2026 Ramadan fast and to the Christian faithful as they embark on this year’s Lenten season.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, the Distinguished Senator described this year’s simultaneous observance of Ramadan and Lent as a profound spiritual moment—one that carries deep religious, moral, and national significance.
According to Senator Wadada, both Ramadan and Lent symbolize sacred seasons of sacrifice, self-denial, repentance, charity, and renewed devotion to God. He emphasized that these solemn periods call believers to deeper reflection, heightened compassion, and unwavering commitment to righteous living.
The Senator noted that fasting, as taught in the Holy Books, is not merely abstinence from food and drink, but a spiritual discipline that closes the doors to sinfulness and opens wide the windows of righteousness. It is a divine opportunity for purification of the heart, renewal of faith, and strengthening of moral character.
He stressed that the virtues cultivated during these holy seasons—charity, humility, patience, forgiveness, and brotherhood—must not be confined to a few weeks of observance but should become a lasting way of life for every believer and every citizen.
Senator Wadada particularly highlighted the extraordinary significance of Muslims and Christians beginning their fasting seasons on the same date—an occurrence that has not happened in over three decades. The lawmaker charged well-to-do individuals and corporate bodies to extend hands of generosity to the less privileged, ensuring that no family is left behind during this spiritually significant period. He further called on citizens to intensify prayers for leaders at all levels and for the continued peace, unity, and prosperity of Nigeria.
