Farmers in Shonga Community, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, have expressed appreciation to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for providing agricultural inputs to boost food production in the state.
In a statement, the Maize Farmers’ Contact Community Leader, Muhammad Mohammed Pogi, described the introduction of the “Kwara State 2026 Wet Season Special Maize Intervention for Communities Affected by Banditry and Natural Disasters” for clustered maize farmers as a commendable initiative.
According to him, the intervention reflects Governor AbdulRazaq’s commitment to ensuring food sufficiency and supporting farmers during the current planting season.
Mohammed Pogi also commended the Commissioner for Livestock Development, who also serves as the Supervising Commissioner for the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, for her resilience and dedication in ensuring that the intervention reached genuine farmers at the appropriate time.
He noted that the distribution of high-quality Golden Fertiliser, agrochemicals and improved maize seedlings would significantly enhance productivity and improve the livelihoods of beneficiary farmers.
The farmers’ leader thanked Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his positive response to the yearnings and aspirations of farmers across the state.
He assured the state government of the continued support of maize farmers for its agricultural policies and programmes, pledging their commitment to ensuring the success of initiatives aimed at improving food production and strengthening food security in Kwara State.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has arrested a 36-year-old Point-of-Sale (POS) operator, AbdulGaniyu AbdulRahman, over the alleged repeated sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl in Ilorin.
According to the Command, the suspect was apprehended after the victim’s father reported the matter to the NSCDC Gender Unit, alleging that his teenage daughter had been sexually assaulted on several occasions.
Investigators said the suspect, who operates a POS business at Alfa Yahaya, Adeta in Ilorin, allegedly became familiar with the victim through his business premises before luring her to his shop and an uncompleted building, where he was accused of repeatedly assaulting her.
The NSCDC further alleged that the suspect threatened to kill the victim if she revealed the incidents, causing her to remain silent for a period out of fear.
The victim also told investigators that the suspect allegedly gave her a locally prepared herbal mixture to drink during one of the encounters, after which she reportedly became weak and disoriented.
The Command disclosed that a medical examination conducted on the victim revealed evidence of a previous hymenal injury associated with sexual activity.
NSCDC said the suspect would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
Reacting to the incident, the Kwara State Commandant of the NSCDC, Abbas Nda Mohammed, condemned all forms of violence and abuse against children.
He described offences involving minors as “unacceptable and a grave violation of the rights and dignity of children.”
The Commandant reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable persons, warning that anyone found culpable of crimes against minors would face the full weight of the law.
He also urged parents and guardians to maintain close communication with their children, pay attention to changes in their behaviour and promptly report suspected cases of abuse to security agencies for immediate intervention.
