PDP Unveils Rev. Fawenu as Kwara Deputy Governorship Candidate for 2027

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has officially unveiled Reverend Cornelius Olaosebikan Sunday (COS) Fawenu as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 governorship election, describing his emergence as a strategic move aimed at strengthening the party’s bid to reclaim power in the state.

Speaking during the official unveiling in Ilorin on Friday, the Kwara State PDP Chairman, Hon. Isa Bawa Adamu, said the selection of Fawenu followed extensive consultations with party leaders, stakeholders and the party’s governorship candidate, Engr. Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu.

Adamu said the decision reflected the party’s commitment to internal democracy, transparency and the promotion of credible leadership.

According to him, four qualified party members were nominated for the deputy governorship position before the governorship candidate eventually settled for Fawenu after broad consultations.

“Following extensive consultations across the length and breadth of our dear state, the party received nominations of four eminently qualified and highly respected personalities for the position of deputy governorship candidate.

“After a painstaking process of consultations involving party leadership, critical stakeholders and our governorship candidate, Engr. Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu, a decision was reached selecting Reverend Cornelius Olaosebikan Sunday Fawenu as his running mate,” he said.

The PDP chairman described Fawenu as a man of proven integrity whose record in religious, community and humanitarian service made him the ideal choice for the position.

He said the cleric’s leadership qualities, commitment to peace and justice, and contributions to community development had earned him widespread respect across Kwara State.

“This selection is not merely a political decision; it is a strategic choice founded on merit, character, competence and an unwavering commitment to the progress of our state,” Adamu stated.

He also commended Fawenu for sacrificing his earlier ambition to contest the Kwara South Senatorial seat in the interest of the party, describing the decision as a demonstration of loyalty and selflessness.

“His action demonstrates uncommon loyalty, discipline and commitment to collective progress above personal ambition,” he added.

Adamu disclosed that the party had already initiated constitutional procedures to fill the vacancy created by Fawenu’s withdrawal from the Kwara South senatorial race and had notified the PDP National Chairman accordingly.

The state chairman assured party members that the PDP remained united and prepared for the 2027 elections, stressing that its focus would be on security, economic development, youth and women empowerment, quality education, agriculture and transparent governance.

“Our message today is simple: the Peoples Democratic Party is united, prepared and committed to providing purposeful leadership that prioritises security, economic growth, youth and women empowerment, quality education, agricultural development and transparent governance for all Kwarans,” he said.

He further appreciated the other aspirants for accepting the outcome of the consultation process, noting that their support had strengthened unity within the party.

“There are no losers; each remains a valued partner in our collective mission to rescue and rebuild Kwara,” Adamu said.

He urged party members and supporters to remain united and work towards securing victory for the PDP in the 2027 governorship election.

The event concluded with the formal presentation of Reverend Cornelius Olaosebikan Sunday Fawenu as the party’s deputy governorship candidate and running mate to Engr. Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu.
