The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has arrested two suspected members of a burglary syndicate and recovered two locally fabricated firearms with a live cartridge during intelligence-led operations in Ilorin.

The arrests followed separate reports of burglary and housebreaking in parts of the state capital, where residents reportedly lost mobile phones, laptops, electronic appliances and other valuables to suspected criminals.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC I Ayoola Michael Shola, operatives of the Command’s Tracking Unit swung into action after receiving credible intelligence that led to the arrest of one of the suspects, Ajiboye Adedamola Oluwatobi, popularly known as “Kush-T,” at a suspected criminal hideout in the Danialu area of Gaa-Akanbi, Ilorin.

The statement added that further intelligence-driven operations resulted in the arrest of another suspect, Dayo Sesan, also known as “Sexy,” during which two locally fabricated firearms and one live cartridge were recovered from him.

According to the Command, preliminary investigations linked the suspects to a criminal syndicate allegedly involved in burglary and related crimes across the Tanke, Pipeline and Gaa-Akanbi areas of Ilorin.

“The suspects also identified themselves as members of the Aiye Confraternity. Investigations are ongoing to establish the full extent of their criminal activities, identify other members of the syndicate, and ensure that all those connected with the criminal enterprise are brought to justice,” the statement said.

The NSCDC disclosed that the recovered exhibits included two locally fabricated firearms and one live cartridge.

It further stated that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to tackling crime in the state, the statement noted that under the leadership of Commandant Abbas Nda Mohammed, the Kwara State Command would continue to deploy intelligence-led operations, proactive crime prevention measures and collaboration with other security agencies to safeguard lives and property.

The Command also appealed to residents of the state to support security efforts by providing timely, credible and actionable information that would assist in combating crime and improving public safety across Kwara.
