The Kwara State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity over the alleged abduction and murder of a student of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, following weeks of investigation into the victim’s disappearance.
The suspects, identified as Adeoye Babatunde Alimi, 23, also known as “Solar”; Bernard Kayode, 25, alias “KK”; and Owoyemi Bashiru, 27, alias “GDP”, were arrested during coordinated operations by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) across identified cult hideouts in Ilorin metropolis on Monday, June 29, 2026.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Ilorin.
According to the police spokesperson, the arrests followed credible intelligence and sustained investigations into the disappearance of 29-year-old Sodiq Durodola Olaniyi, an indigene of Oyo State and a student of Kwara State Polytechnic, who had been declared missing since June 4, 2026.
Ejire-Adeyemi said preliminary findings revealed that the suspects belonged to a violent cult group allegedly responsible for the student’s abduction.
“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their respective roles in the crime and disclosed that the victim was executed by members of the cult group after his abduction,” she said.
The police further revealed that investigations uncovered a 12-member criminal gang allegedly linked to the crime, with nine other suspects currently on the run.
According to the statement, security operatives have intensified efforts to track down the fleeing suspects, dismantle the criminal network and recover the victim’s remains.
“The suspects presently in custody are also assisting investigators with useful information regarding other violent crimes allegedly perpetrated by the group within Ilorin metropolis.
“Investigation is ongoing, and all persons found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with the law upon the conclusion of investigations,” the statement added.
The command reassured residents of its commitment to tackling cultism and other violent crimes across the state while urging members of the public to continue providing credible information that would assist security agencies in combating criminal activities.
