The Sultan of Sokoto and co chairman of Nigeria interreligious council (NIREC)

His Eminence Alhaji Abubakar Sa’ad III on Wednesday at the second triannual meeting of NIREC held at Barcelona Hotel Abuja said advocates of the abolition of sharia Laws enshrined in the 1999 Nigerias constitution should desist from calling for the removal of sharia law,because sharia law is exclusively meant for moslems and not for Christians or any other faith.

The Sultan informed that sharia law is a way of life to the moslem faith,because it is a law that protects the practice of Islam,therefore Christians are exonerated from the law and they are not meant to go and be judged in sharia courts.

He noted that within 19years on the throne as sultan of sokoto he has not heard that any Christian was taken to a sharia courts.

The Sultan cautioned religious leaders in the country that the essence of forming NIREC may fizzle away if religious leaders in Nigeria don’t speak in one voice,such that religious leaders must embrace truthfulness,accountability and uprightness.

He called for the total reflection of all the members of NIREC such that oneness and togetherness could be reached.

In his remarks the Christian Association of Nigeria president Archbishop Daniel okoh warned that Nigeria has been engulfed into a perilous times such as kidnapping,banditry, and extremism that threatens National unity.

“the daily loss of lives is so alarming,families are mourning,communities are deserted while citizens are anxious of their safety.”

Also speaking the secretary to the government of the federation senator George Akume outrightly rejected the misleading global claims that Nigeria is experiencing religious genocide,arguing that both Christians and moslems suffered devastating attacks across the states and praised president Tinubu efforts in deploying security agencies to intensify their operations and secure victims and Nigerians.
