Victims of Oro Central market Irepodun local government area of Kwara state are counting their losses as properties worth millions of naira were destroyed by inferno.
The incident which occured on Monday afternoon affect mood of the victims as 30 shops were razed by the inferno
Although investigation is still ongoing to ascertain the real cause of the inferno
However, some of the victims who betrayed emotion called on the government and well meaning individuals to come to their rescue.
Meanwhile the Kwara state governor Abdulrahman Abdulraz who was in Oro to commiserate with the victims directed the state emergency agency to get the data of the victims and extent of the damage to determine government’s support.
“We have set the state emergency management agency in motion to take enumeration. We will mitigate the loss for the individuals who have lost properties,” AbdulRazaq said.
“The incident is quite unfortunate and we stand by the victims at this trying period.”
He commended the people of Oro Kingdom for always coming together to offer communal support at every stage of their development.
Accompanied by a member of Kwara State House of Assembly Hon Felix Awodiji; chairman Irepodun local government transition committee Jide Oyinloye; Government Task Force on Environment Chairman AbdulRazaq Jiddah; and former Commissioner of Information and All Progressives Congress chieftain Raheem Adedoyin, the Governor had earlier visited the palace of the Oloro of Oro Kingdom Oba AbdulRafiu Ajiboye Oyelaran.
Eesa of Oro High Chief Taye Otunola, who spoke on behalf of the monarch, said the community will remain grateful for the prompt intervention of Governor AbdulRazaq less than 24hrs after the incident.
“We are happy to receive you here today. This visit again shows how committed you are to the plight of the poor and the state as a whole. Oro community is solidly behind your administration. We’ll continue to support you,” he said.
